Prato is well connected to the rest of Italy and is reached by the motorway A1 Milano-Napoli (known as the Sun Motorway and considered the spinal cord of the Italian’s road network, since it connects Italy from North to South) and the motorway A11 Firenze – Pisa Nord. All stretches are run by the company Società Autostrade per l'Italia.
A broad network of A- and B-roads connects Prato to Florence, Pistoia and Bologna. The route SS 325 links Prato to Bologna and passes through the Bisenzio Valley (towns of Vaiano, Cantagallo and Vernio).
The exit Prato Ovest is located on the A11 motorway Firenze-Pisa. If you are coming from west (so from Pisa, Lucca, Montecatini, Pistoia) it is the best exit to reach the western and northern areas of the city, Montemurlo or the Bisenzio Valley (Vernio, Vaiano and Cantagallo).
The exit Prato Est is located on the A11 motorway Firenze-Pisa. If you are coming from east (so from Firenze Ovest or from the junction with the A1 Firenze Nord) it is the best exit to reach the industrial area Macrolotto or the eastern, southern and northern areas of the city and Montalbano (Poggio a Caiano and Carmignano).
The exit Calenzano is located in the district of Florence, on the A1 Milano-Napoli. If you are coming from north, this exit allows you to reach the eastern and northern areas of the city. You might also take the junction for the A11 motorway in Firenze Nord (only 2 km away from exit Calenzano-Sesto Fiorentino), and then exit in Prato Est or Prato Ovest.
