How to get to Prato by car
The province of Prato
can be reached by the motorway A1 Milano - Napoli
(known as the Autostrada del sole) and the A11 Firenze - Pisa Nord.
Prato is also connected by state and provincial roads to Florence, Pistoia and Bologna.
The state road which
connects Prato to Bologna is the SS 325 which serves all parts of the Val di Bisenzio
(the municipalities of Vaiano, Cantagallo and Vernio).
The motorway exits in detail
Prato Ovest
The exit of Prato Ovest is situated on the motorway A11 Firenze-Pisa (marked by the number 1 in the figure alongside). Arriving from the west (therefore from Pisa, Lucca, Montecatini, Pistoia) this is the best exit in order to reach various parts of Prato, in particular Prato Ovest, Prato Nord, the municipality of Montemurlo, and the Val di Bisenzio (Vernio, Vaiano and Cantagallo).
Prato Est
The exit of Prato Est is situated on the motorway A11 Firenze-Pisa (marked by the number 2 in the figure alongside). Arriving from the east (therefore from Firenze Ovest or from the link road connecting with the A1 Firenze Nord) this is the best exit to reach various parts of Prato, in particular Prato Est, Prato Sud and the industrial zone of Macrolotto, Prato Nord, the Val di Bisenzio (Vernio, Vaiano and Cantagallo) as well as the area of Montalbano (Poggio a Caiano and Carmignano).
Calenzano - Sesto Fiorentino
The exit of Calenzano is situated on the motorway A1 Milano-Napoli (indicated by the number 3 in the figure alongside) and is in the province of Florence. Arriving from the north (therefore from Bologna) one can get out at this exit in order to reach various parts of Prato Est and Nord. Otherwise one has to take the motorway link road for the A11 at Firenze Nord (which is only 2 km from Calenzano - Sesto Fiorentino) and get out at one of the two exits: Prato Est or Prato Ovest.
